Meet Dorie Greenspan, the cookie-whisperer. She creates little marvels, many of which actually come to her in the middle of the night as she dreams.
Dorie is the definition of multi-accomplished. She has the inquisitive mind of a child and birthed a cookie monster, her son Joshua, who ran the cookie boutique Beurre & Sel in NY with her. Dorie acquired techniques from working along side of masters Julia Child & Parisian master pâtissier, Pierre Hermé. Gingerbread is one of my favorite scents to come wafting out of the kitchen at Christmas time. I am always looking for new ways to incorporate my favorite holiday flavor, so when I needed a sweet treat to bring to several cookie exchanges, I knew something “gingery” was brewing.
I looked for inspiration from my trip to Brazil earlier this year in which I had my first experience with a popular homemade soft and chewy candy called Brigadeiro. I have been waiting all year for Fall to arrive in Los Angeles, along with “The Great Pumpkin” from Charlie Brown. Surely the Great Pumpkin descended upon numerous food bloggers Saturday, inspiring many wonderful pumpkin dishes that were not only beautiful to photograph, but delicious to sample.
